BONOMETTI: CHINA? SHOULD BE TREATED FAIRLY AND ON A RECIPROCAL BASIS, NOT ONLY ON CARS BUT ALSO ON COMPONENTS

Apply to China the same duties that the Land of the Dragon reserves for our products because «only then would there be reciprocity». Marco Bonometti, automotive entrepreneur and president of the Rezzatesi Mechanical Workshops, after the decision by the European Commission to revise downwards the duties on electric cars made in China. The new taxes on electric cars have a share that varies from +9%, as in the case of Tesla, to +36.3% of Saic, to add to the existing duty of +10%. «There is confusion – says in a chat with AdnKronos – because the application of these duties is not objective but subjective.
They should explain how they measure the type and amount of collaboration of one company compared to another». His recipe is quite different: «I wonder why the same duties that China applies on our products are not applied…Chinese duties are at 25%». And then, argues Bonometti, «why not extend the talk of duties to components as they did in the USA, where they solved the Chinese competition by blocking all imports?».
